Liebster Award…

Hello lovelies…

I was nominated for a Liebster award by Namreen from Life and times of the Fireflies . It always makes my day when I know that people actually take the time to read my blog. So much love to Namreen (Namu) for nominating me. This award is for up and coming bloggers to get acquainted with other bloggers, creating exposure for themselves and their fellow blogger buddies.

Rules of Liebster:
The blog you nominate must have less than 200 followers. The person who nominates you gives you 10 questions which you must answer. You then nominate 10 Bloggers (no tag backs) , and set 10 questions for them to answer. Tag the bloggers that you chose in your post.

These were the questions set for me by Namu :

What inspired you to start blogging?
As I got older fashion became more than brands to me, it became a passion. I started my blog two years ago (It was initially called Tips and Trends), but I changed it to Style By Shaheeda when I moved over to WordPress. My blog was my outlet to express myself and my fashion likes and dislikes. I was once a shy introverted person, I feel my blog has also helped my confidence a lot. It started with my friends liking it, but now I get compliments from people I haven’t seen in a while and that makes me feel amazing.

What is your favourite book?
I have read countless books, some I can’t even remember the names of. I enjoy books by Indian/Arab authors as I feel I relate to them. If something has to stick out for me it has to be Desperate in Dubai(Author-Ameera Al Hakawati) this book started of as a blog but was then published. I have been enthralled by Arab culture since the first time I visited Dubai. Most of their lives seem like every girls dream- shop all day! This book gave me an insight into their culture albeit fiction it was really an eye opener.

Best childhood memory…
Spending time with my cousins at my grandparents house over every school holiday…getting upto all sorts of mischief. There were lots of tears, giggles and learning experiences.

What is your ideal holiday destination?
New York!!!…. So cosmopolitan, and just my kind of place. And I’m lucky enough to be visiting New York in January 2014.
I would also like to do Euro Trip someday.

Your favourite t.v programme is…
Oh I’m such a series addict I can’t choose just one. A few that stick out for me : Revenge, Pretty Little Liars, The Vampire Diaries…the list goes on and on. I love watching different genres. Escape reality for 40 minutes at a time, be it watching vampires or street savvy New York dwellers.

What is your most favourite blog post that you have written?
I love doing trend posts, one of my favourite was the very recent Summer in the Hamptons Look post incorporating current spring trends. It’s my favourite because spring is my favourite season.

Horror? Comedy? Action? Thriller? Romcom?
RomCom is my ultimate favourite. I can spend a day watching Hallmark feel good movies , just for all the happily ever afters.

What is your favourite thing to blog about?
Fashion and beauty. Fashion is my passion, and I see make up as an art.

If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?
I would like to get rid of my dark under eye circles (which I blog about often), and stretch marks and a few scars on my face. I know nobody is perfect but if I could well why not 😉

What is your favourite fragrance?
I love soft Sweet fragrances , my ultimate favourite at the moment is Prada Candy. The scent is amazing and the bottle is gorgeous.

Every muslims dream destination includes visiting the holy lands. Nowhere in your blog do i see any referals or dreams of you doing so. :(((((. Who am i to judge but it it so sad to see a spritely young gal like yourself follow the western norm of culture………..dont feel bad by my comment In this day and age its good to be told how it is jus as you say it how it is. About your fake replicas also did it occur to you that some people cannot afford the real thing so its their own perorgative to buy what ever makes them happy. To each is own. :). …..

      Dear Anonymous.
I can appreciate criticism as I am not perfect (Hence the fact I didn’t delete your post like a coward). You say you aren’t judgemental but you cant question someone else’s Islamic values if you do not know them. How do you know what is in my heart? If my heart yearns to visit Makkah and Madinah?(even though I didn’t blog about it).something I have learnt growing up is: Don’t judge someone because they sin differently to you.
My blogs name clearly states the nature of it.(Style By Shaheeda” states that my blog is fashion and beauty orientated). So if that sparks your interest gladly read my blog.
Secondly, the replica post was about my opinions on the topic, as you say “In this day and age” we are allowed to say how we feel. I know replicas aren’t exactly going to disappear because I blogged about it, but that doesn’t mean my opinion doesn’t count. By writing the post I knew a lot of people would react negatively as well, and that’s their opinion. I am not going to jump down their throat because they think differently to me.
I am not going to be everyones cup of tea and neither am I trying to be.

There’s no point in saying ‘Who am I to judge’ and then completely turning the tables around and judging a person. The Almighty, alone, is the judge. I am trying my best to keep on the straight path, like every other Muslim, and yet I still find time to read the blogposts published by Style by Shaheeda, and never once has it swayed me away from Islam or brainwashed me. Actually, as a matter of fact, I’ve learnt a lot. This blog wasn’t created to offend or degrade people. Hence, don’t jump to conclusions. Like Shaheeda said, this blog is confined to style and caters for readers interested in fashion. We don’t know what’s in the hearts of others. Therefore, we should never decipher their intentions.

    Dear Anon,

Since you appear to not understand, a blog is a space for someone to share their thoughts and opinions just generally or on a specific topic. Shaheeda has chosen fashion .. And that is why she is writing about that and not her beliefs and hopes and aspirations towards her imaan. The first thing you should know about being a muslim is that we are not here to judge others but rather be judged, we do not know who is closer to اللّه, only He knows. This is the bloggers passion, I feel you are trying to insult her personally and not on her content. May اللّه grant us all hidaya .

Since when does yearning to go to the holy lands make you a better person or any more islamically inclined than any other person. Islam is about your way of life in every aspect including how you aren’t allowed to judge others. I’ve seen countless people talk about their love for the holy lands, yet everything else about them is unislamic. That being said, this is a blog about fashion and style, if you are looking for islamic inspiration than I suggest you look under the right category. This anon sounds as tho you were just waiting to attack Shaheeda.
    Love this blog xoxo

    Dear anon

I would just love to know what you are doing on shaheedas website if you feel style by shaheeda is not upto your standards of what a muslim woman should be doing.. or in your case the places a muslim should be visiting.

I think that that shaheeda replied and handled your jealousy and judgemental comments in the perfect way.. and just like you said.. who are you to judge her! you dont know anything about her. So grow up and if you think you know so much about islam then im sure you know that islam teaches you to keep your mouth closed if you have nothing good to say about the next person.

And ps the next time you feel like sharing your jealousy and judgmental attitude atleast have the guts to not hide behind the anon name.

U have created a terrible impression of the way u presume a muslima should or should not be.
This is clearly not your platform to be vindictive.
This blog is inspiring coming from a hearty energetic lady who gives us wonderful insights ..something I look forward to reading on those dreary work days
So please take ur personal agendas to another forum as it cant be entertained here.

  9. Fathi Tar says:

Dearest Sister, Zahra Dolly would like to say something :

“Masie, your ideal destination is New York only because that’s where I’m gonna be in Jan! So don’t worry about what everyone else thinks or says. Just stay your amazing, confident, wonderful self and come visit me already!”

Okay, if she could talk that’s what she would say… 😉 That said, the world is filled with people who will judge you. The most important thing is to be yourself, know what’s in your heart and live.

Dear Anonymous, we don’t know who you are , neither do we want to know. Just like you so kindly gave your opinion, Shaheeda has hers too – which she expresses in her blog. You know not of what is in her heart, therefore you cannot judge her upon her dream vacation destination or her blog.

Negative criticism is always welcome if it’s constructive – hence your thoughts on replicas are understood. However, your thoughts on Shaheeda turned out to be directly judgemental. Remember, always practice what you preach – before feeling sad about how supposedly unislamic she is and about how she has embraced some retarded idea of western culture, consider how you judged her on an open forum – something that clearly isn’t Islamic to do.

This blog is about fashion and you clearly shouldn’t be reading it if it does not benefit you. And remember there’s a difference between criticizing a blog and it’s contents and criticizing the blogger about her self – the latter being a judgement which only Allah above has the right to so. Next time, keep your thoughts to yourself.

Lastly, to my sisters friends, Shazia, Laila, etc it’s awesome that you all are always so supportive 🙂

Now I’m going back to sleep. Love,

    Fathi

Dear Anon. If you think you are right in saying all that you did…well I’m not going to waste typing space by reiterating it then you should give your name. I’m glad that Shaheeda was honest about her dream vacation, as one knows or should know vacations are for destressing, chilling out and relaxing. As you say visiting the holy lands are a dream destination that it is but it’s that for rejuvenating spiritually it shouldn’t be chosen as a vacation to holiday or to chill out, it should be to spiritually rejuvenate ur mind and soul. As this is a blog about style and fashion. It is best that you keep your comments to that. Don’t bring religion into everything. Shaheeda is doing a splendid job on her blog which takes time and effort. I personally agree with her about fakes replicas. If one cannot afford the genuine stuff then be content with non branded items because by buying fakes you are supporting piracy ‘which I feel is so wrong’ coz piracy is illegal in any case. Lastly to Shaheeda you held up very well with your rebuttal. Kudos to you. Its people like Anon who come through your life by trying to put you down. You just have to show them that you can rise above it all and become stronger. And as you said Anon ‘this is the world of opinion and mine to you is ‘if this blog isn’t to ur tastes and is too hot for you then Darling stay outa the kitchen’ PS:Remember Silence is GOLDEN….
